Ons Jabeur became the latest seeded player to be handed an early exit from the Australian Open in a humbling defeat by Marketa Vondrousova.
The Tunisian second seed collapsed to the floor in tears backstage after she was beaten 6-1 5-7 6-1.
The 28-year-old came to Melbourne having reached back-to-back Grand Slam finals at the end of 2022, but still awaits a maiden major title.
Jabeur was one of five seeds to fall in the second round on day four.
Veronika Kudermetova, Anett Kontaveit, Liudmila Samsonova and Irina-Camelia Begu all lost earlier on Thursday, but there was success for fourth seed Caroline Garcia and fifth seed Aryna Sabalenka.
France's Garcia beat 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez 7-6 (7-5) 7-5 in one hour and 52 minutes, while Belarusian Sabalenka triumphed 6-3 6-1 against American Shelby Rogers.
In an error-strewn performance that went past 01:00 local time on Rod Laver Arena, Jabeur made 50 unforced errors against Vondrousova and had her serve broken on eight occasions.
Victory marked the first time that Vondrousova, a former French Open finalist, has beaten a player in the top 10 at a Grand Slam, and she will face compatriot Linda Fruhvirtova in the third round.
Earlier, Russian ninth seed Kudermetova was beaten 6-4 2-6 6-2 by American 21-year-old qualifier Katie Volynets.
Making her sixth main-draw appearance at a Grand Slam, world number 113 Volynets is the first American qualifier to reach the Australian Open third round since Lindsay Davenport in 1993.
She said of her time on Margaret Court Arena: "I've never played in a stadium this packed and that many people keeping the energy up for me."
Volynets will face Zhang Shuai next after the Chinese 23rd seed beat Petra Martic 6-3 6-3, while Sabalenka plays Elise Mertens after the Belgian's 6-4 6-3 victory over Lauren Davis.
Garcia will meet Laura Siegemund in the third round, after the German brought Romanian Begu's challenge to an end in a 5-7 7-5 6-3 victory that took three hours and 12 minutes.
Estonia's Kontaveit lost 3-6 6-3 6-4 to Poland's Magda Linette, who will meet Ekaterina Alexandrova next.
Russian Samsonova was swiftly seen off by Donna Vekic, the Croatian winning 6-3 6-0 in one hour and six minutes. Vekic will play Spain's Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in round three.
