
Edmund reached his first ATP quarter-final in Doha in February
British number three Kyle Edmund beat Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver in straight sets to reach round two at the clay-court Estoril Open.
Edmund came back from a break down in the second set to win 6-3 7-5 and next plays French third seed Benoit Paire.
The 21-year-old Yorkshireman won the first five games, before recovering from 0-3 to take the second set.
British number two Aljaz Bedene lost 6-4 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 to Russia's Karen Khachanov at the Istanbul Open.
It is the second tournament running in which Bedene has been beaten by Khachanov, having lost to the 19-year-old in Barcelona last week.
