Scott Cummings thinks beating Toulouse was one of the biggest moments in Glasgow Warriors' history

Scotland forward Scott Cummings believes his Glasgow Warriors side are genuine contenders for this season's Champions Cup – and has happily committed his future to the club he supported as a boy because he feels they are ready to win silverware.

A one-club man, the 29-year-old lock has put pen to paper on a new three-year contract.

Saturday's Champions Cup win over six-time winners Toulouse has given Cummings, and the squad, every reason to believe they could be European champions this season.

"We've talked about that this week," he said. "Look, the bar's risen again, every time that we play a big game like that, a big French team.

"I think the best thing about that performance at the weekend was: that was their strongest team. To beat Toulouse stands out as one of those big moments in the club's history for me."

Glasgow have been to three United Rugby Championship finals during Cummings' time at the club, but he feels they in a particularly "really strong place" currently.

"We've got a really strong, quality squad," he said. "Some of the young guys coming through are incredible.

"We've got so many good 22, 23-year-olds that are bursting at the bit to get into the team and really pushing the standards on. The ambitions of the club now are to win competitions."

The British and Irish Lion also has ambitions at national level, having been to two World Cups already with Scotland.

His eyes are firmly fixed on making it three in a row in 2027, but before that he wants to win the Six Nations, in which he accepts Gregor Townsend's national side have underperformed in recent years.

"We've not achieved what we want to achieve with Scotland, so that's definitely something else that - with the Six Nations and a World Cup coming up in a year or two - is a massive thing for me," he said.

"I want to be a part of that and that definitely factors into my decision to stay as well. We definitely want to right some wrongs after the autumn we had there."

This Saturday, though, Cummings is concentrating on facing derby rivals Edinburgh at Hampden Park in the first leg of the 1872 Cup.

"We love these derby games," he added. "These are the games you get excited for every year; the Christmas period where you go from Europe into the derbies into Europe again. These two matches are massive for us."
