Brayden Wiliame scored four tries as Challenge Cup holders Catalans Dragons crossed 12 times to thrash League One Doncaster 62-6 and reach the quarter-finals.

The Dons were the lowest ranked side in the sixth round but competed well during what was a tight first half.

But the second period exposed the gap between Super League and the third tier as Catalans dismantled their opponents.

They scored freely to race clear before easing off in the final stages.

Richard Horne's Doncaster side had made light of the difference in quality and budgets as they kept pace with their opponents in the opening half, responding to an early Williame score by levelling things up through Connor Bower's try.

And it stayed level until the half-hour mark when a quick-fire double from Matt Whitley and Jason Baitieri gave the hosts breathing space at the break.

All the effort the Dons had put in up to that point then took its toll as Steve McNamara's team ruthlessly cut through a tiring defence by running in 44 points in the second period.

Catalans Dragons head coach Steve McNamara:

"[On the injury that forced Sam Tomkins off] He got a tight back. He didn't feel anything, he just stood up and his back tightened up.

"He was struggling for a period but is moving a lot easier now so hopefully it's just a bit of a spasm. We'll see how he is during the week.

"It will be a traditional week in how we prepare for the game [at Barcelona's Nou Camp against Wigan in Super League] but make no mistake, it's a special game for us as the Catalan club."

Doncaster head coach Richard Horne:

"I thought in the first half the players put so much effort and energy into it that it hurt us in the second.

"I don't think anyone would have expected us to be only 18-6 down at half-time. I'm really proud of them.

"They turned up for each other and worked hard especially into the wind. We didn't have much opportunity of getting out of our own end."
