Southern captained Newcastle Knights' reserve side last season
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have appointed new signing Steve Southern as their new captain.
The back-row forward, 29, signed from Australian side Newcastle Knights, will lead his new side for the first time in a friendly against Leeds on Boxing Day.
He replaces the retired Glenn Morrison, who is now on the coaching staff.
"I'm very, very, very proud. I didn't see it coming at all and it's a real honour," the new Wildcats skipper told the club website.
