  1. McNeil progresses after mammoth 154-minute gamepublished at 16:43 BST 24 April 2020

Neal Maupay 0-1 Dwight McNeil (after Golden Goal)

Burnley winger Dwight McNeil set up a semi-final tie against Wolves' Diogo Jota after a Golden Goal victory over Brighton striker Neal Maupay.

Clean sheets have been at premium so far in the competition - there had only been two in the previous 17 games - but in a tight affair the Golden Goal rule was needed for the first time in the tournament.

Maupay had been in fine form in his two previous fixtures with "GOAT" Glenn Murray scoring eight goals but McNeil had clearly watched Maupay's previous encounters and counteracted the slow, patient short pass build-up that been so effective.

Chances were few and far between in the regulation 90 minutes and when the keepers were drawn in action they made some fantastic saves.

The first-half of extra time was even tighter with just one shot but 20 minutes in the second period McNeil took advantage of a premature press from Maupay to slide through Jay Rodriguez to slot home.

McNeil said: "I found that one opening I needed. I've never been that nervous before playing Fifa, it was the tightest game I've ever played."

He said he plans to stick to the same game plan for his semi-final against Jota - who has represented Wolves and Portugal in official Fifa tournaments.

  2. 'He's not beating me' - Sterling sets up Alexander-Arnold semi-final clashpublished at 15:32 BST 24 April 2020

    Andre Gomes 2-4 Raheem Sterling

Manchester City's all-time top goalscorer Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick as Raheem Sterling beat Everton's Andre Gomes 4-2 to set up a semi-final clash against Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Gomes started the game by saying the "pressure is all on him", despite his 8-0 second round win over Chelsea's Reece James. However, Sterling dealt with any pressure there was.

The game started in a cagey manner before a superb Kevin de Bruyne goal gave Sterling the lead before Gylfi Sigurdsson equalised with a run from deep.

At half-time Sterling said he "needed to keep his head and get the winning goal".

And he did just that. Just like in real life when City need someone to stand up, Sergio Aguero stood up and notched three second-half strikes to help Sterling progress.

The forward also had a few post-match words for Alexander-Arnold too. The pair have played against each other in England training camps with Sterling saying: "I know he plays, he's not beating me with this set-up I've got here."

    Big words from Raheem.

  3. Wolves forward Jota cruises throughpublished at 14:31 BST 24 April 2020

    Diogo Jota 5-2 Lys Mousset

Wolves forward Diogo Jota justified his favouritism tag with a 5-2 victory over Sheffield United striker Lys Mousset.

Jota was installed as the new tournament favourite after opponent Mousset shocked Todd Cantwell - who was the original favourite - in round two.

Both players went into the game stressing the need "to be careful" due to the ability of one another and that played out in a tense, tight opening first quarter, with Jota revealing at half-time that his dog was barking in the background, adding to his nerves!

However, Jota grew into the game and deservedly came out victorious - albeit with a huge stroke of luck after a Mousset own goal which Diogo said "killed the game" while Lys simply said "that's Fifa". Pragmatic.

Jota wrapped up his progress - and secured a semi-final against Dwight McNeil - with a delightful lob dubbed "goal of the tournament so far".

  4. Dominant Alexander-Arnold reaches semispublished at 12:35 BST 24 April 2020

    Trent Alexander-Arnold 4-1 Christian Atsu

A dominant display from Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold saw him beat Newcastle winger Christian Atsu 4-1 to reach the last four.

Despite the setback of going a goal behind, Alexander-Arnold was unflustered and stuck to his patient build-up tactic that saw him beat rivals Manchester United in the previous round.

Just like in real life the Liverpool front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane were clinical and Atsu - who defended stoutly throughout - was unable to stop TAA. Admittedly the odd "sweaty" Fifa goal may have aided Trent's cause...

It clearly means a lot to the promising full-back as he demonstrated his passion with a yelp of "noooo!" after missing a one-on-one, while victory was met by a double-first punch.

His semi-final promises to be a cracker, with a clash against Manchester City's Raheem Sterling on the cards.
