Angels of the North v CWBA

Today’s first match will feature no fewer than ten current GB internationals, including nine members of last year’s silver medal-winning squad from the European Championships.

Coventry-based CWBA’s team includes hometown hero Charlotte Moore, who made her international debut in 2013 aged just 14 and has gone on to feature in every major tournament possible, winning four European medals and a historic silver at the World Championships.

Angels of the North aren’t short of international stars either, including Paralympians Laurie Williams and Robyn Love.

    Blackhawks v Vixens

Freshly promoted from Division 2, Blackhawks finished last season with an impressive 100% winning record and will be hoping to build on those performances in the top tier.

This match may well feature many future stars of the British team, with eight players on show involved in the GBR Academy including Adele and Jade Atkins – sisters who both featured in Britain’s 2018 Junior European Championship gold medal team, but who find themselves on opposite sides of the court today.

Formed in 2003, the British Wheelchair Basketball Women’s League consists of 19 teams split across three divisions, with all of the matches played across three rounds of competition hosted at the Wildcats Arena in Nottingham.

Each of the four teams in Division 1 will play each other twice across the three rounds, with the third round in April also featuring the semi-finals and finals of the competition.

Today the BBC will have live action from both matches in Division 1 as reigning champions CWBA take on Manchester-based Angels of the North, while Vixens face last year’s Division 2 champions Blackhawks.
