Devils thump Flyers to rise to second in Elite League

Cardiff Devils moved up to second in the Elite League with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Fife Flyers.

Jimmy Oligny gave the hosts the lead 15 minutes into the opening period at Vindico Arena.

The Welsh side extended their advantage as Cole Sanford and Brett Ferguson both netted in the second period.

Sanford scored his second goal of the night in the fourth period before Cedric Lacroix added his side's fifth late on as Devils halted their two-game losing streak in style.

Devils return to action at third-placed Sheffield Steelers on Sunday (16:00 GMT).

Flyers - who remain at the foot of the table - host league leaders Belfast Giants at 17:00 GMT on Sunday.
