AFC Wimbledon's big win over Blackpool moves Johnnie Jackson's side up to 11th in League One, and leaves the Tangerines in the relegation zone.

Port Vale remain rooted to the bottom of the league, with Bradford moving level with third-placed Bolton Wanderers on 64 points.

So tight at the bottom - Exeter City in 16th and Blackpool are separated by just four points.

So, to recap on a busy night in the Championship...

Coventry City are the big winners as they beat Preston North End in a convincing manner to go eight points clear at the top of the Championship.

Middlesbrough missed their chance to keep pace as they were beaten 1-0 by Charlton Athletic at the Riverside.

Norwich City fought back from a goal down to beat Sheffield United, while Southampton rescued a point in added time against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

Oxford United claimed a vital three points in the relegation fight as they beat Blackburn Rovers at Kassam Stadium.

Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"It's some good stuff and not so good stuff. Sort of scratching my head at the amount of times we turned the ball over, even in the first half after a really good half an hour where we get ourselves in front, deservedly so.

"Sort of quieten the crowd, which you want to do away from home, and put your noses in front.

"But still opportunities there to go and get the second and just not finding that connection, not finding that rhythm, loose again like we were sort of on Saturday and then the second half.

"Same again, turning the ball over the amount of times that we did and if you invite that on and you give good players - who are obviously in form and going well, and they're a technical side - if you turn the ball over to them, they're going to come back at you and apply pressure and then give their players energy because the crowd are on the front foot and the backing that they get."

Norwich City

Norwich defender Jose Cordoba told BBC Radio Norfolk:

“I think tonight it was amazing to come back in the second half and then perform like that. The fans deserve that and then we as well, we are really working hard for that type of game to win, to take the points and yeah, really good.”

“I think that's the manager who trusts me, and then everyone is following the way, and then for sure we are ambitious and we have the belief with us every game, every match, and then happy with the performance tonight.

It's tough when they go when you finish the first half with 1-0 [down], but at the end of the day it's football, and then we have the opportunity, even if you are 2-0 down, but... good for us. We never stop. We keep going and then we take the points.”

Norwich head coach Philippe Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk:

“We knew it was a big task and I was not satisfied after this first half.

"We were maybe too much in a rush, too nervous, maybe with too much will to score the goal and then they got transition moments.

"But it was good that we could turn it around at half time. In the second half, the reaction of the team was brilliant.

"Very good football domination, taking these transitions out, creating a lot of chances, scoring two beautiful goals and managing the game also in the last minutes.

"A really, really good performance from the team in the second half.”

Birmingham City

Birmingham City head coach Chris Davies told BBC Radio WM:

"I just said to the players the only thing you could say is we could have got more goals - three or four probably.

"We had 21 shots at goal, first half in particular there was a lot there for us. Even towards the end there were some big chances.

"We should have probably scored more than just one goal.

"I was really pleased with how we played. We have had a few punches in the face in recent weeks and we had to show a certain amount of character tonight.

"I really liked how they did, we had a real intent to our attacking play, our defending was aggressive. Very pleasing night."

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough manager Kim Hellberg to BBC Radio Tees:

“It has been a theme where we have had a lot of opportunities and not won games.

"We have not been good enough in terms of scoring goals and we have two points from three home games.

“We scored seven goals in our last two games and could have scored seven today but we have to keep working and keep improving.

"It would be worse if we had only two chances all night.

“We need to win as many games as possible. We will try and win them all.”

Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones to BBC Radio London:

“It is all about the result for us at this point.

"To come to one of the best teams in the division and put in that level of performance, I’m pleased.

"Every time we had the ball we gave it away so we were better off without it.

“They have wonderful players. They will get promoted, I am sure, but my players did me proud.

"You saw a group wanting to defend and doing the basics well. It’s such an important part of the season to get back-to-back wins. It is a monster of a league.”

"Absolutely delighted, the performance was outstanding from minute one.

"Tricky game for us tonight as they all are but I think we handled every part of it brilliantly, in possession, the way we moved the ball, the goals, the chances, the focus of the team to see out the game and give them not much at all.

"We were worried about their transition threat and the counter-attack and it didn't really come at all.

"So, credit to the players, really good night for us."

"Tough, I thought they were at it from minute one. But we look at ourselves, we're disappointed obviously.

"First goal is a huge deflection, put us on the back foot. Second one, we should do better. We lose three first contacts and then the referee takes the game away for us at the start of the second half.

"You need those things to go for you rather than against you when you come here.

"Listen, they were at it from the start, we kept going, we kept running, we kept competing but it's difficult.

"You're 3-0 down then, they can almost do what they want. We needed a goal back quickly, we felt we had a penalty [not given].

"You need those things to go for you against a team that's doing well and played well on the night. We need those moments."

So what does it all mean for the Championship table?

Coventry's 3-0 home win over Preston moves Frank Lampard's side eight points clear at the top of the league, with Middlesbrough remaining in second.

Kim Hellberg's team missed the opportunity to reopen a four-point lead over third-placed Millwall and sit just one point ahead of the Lions with nine games of the season remaining.

West Brom were heading out of the relegation zone until Southampton's late, late equaliser but find themselves second-from-bottom Oxford United's win over Blackburn.

Saints leapfrog Derby into seventh on goal difference, while Wrexham maintain a three-point cushion in sixth place.

Oxford United boss Matt Bloomfield says they had academy player Amelia Aplin "in our hearts tonight" after the 15-year-old died during a game on Saturday.

“I really wanted to do the evening justice with our performance," Bloomfield told BBC Radio Oxford after the U's beat Blackburn 1-0.

"Nothing can replace what her poor parents have suffered this weekend and what they have lost.

“But we wanted, as a football club, to pay our respects in the best possible way, respectfully off the pitch and then to try and put a performance in on the pitch that hopefully made a few people smile this evening.

“We are giving it everything we possibly have on the pitch at the moment, there’s still loads more work to go and we’re not going to get carried away but you can see the spirit that the lads are playing with at the moment.”

"I've got a few ugly ones but I seem to be enjoying those so it's good to be back among it.

"From the beginning of the season, we knew there were so many different challenges we'll face. Sometimes when it's going for you it feels good.

"But we know we've got it in us to grit through when things aren't going our way so it's just about weathering the storm.

"We stuck together, we believed in each other and now we're happy to be out the other side and we want to keep it going."

On going eight points clear of Boro: "Obviously it's good news that teams around us are dropping points but we know that our job is to keep doing our job so we're onto the next game and hopefully we can keep on racking up these wins."

It was the most complete performance of the season, they got ahead early and that meant they could coast out the game.

Really outstanding. Preston didn't lay a glove on them. If they can do that again all season it will be interesting how many points we can actually get.

Preston looked beat before we even kicked off. Those two early goals made the difference but the Rushworth save 10 minutes in as well completed the performance.

Coventry City

"I don't think we can say comfortable [the win]. We started the game really well, asserted our dominance and got a couple of goals up at half-time.

"The message was clear, just keep at it. Thankfully we got a third at the start of the second half so it was a good day."

On his first goal of the season from the spot: "All our penalty takers were on the bench tonight so I found myselft taking it.

"Just pleased with the three points."

On whether he is getting excited about possible promotion to the Premier League: "No, not yet. There is still a lot of football to go. It's a bit of a cliche but still nine games left, a lot of points to play for.

"We're just taking it each game as it comes. Keep putting in performances like tonight and we give ourselves a good chance."
