Steve Parkin says Wrexham's comeback win over Sheffield United was "right up there" with the best results the Red Dragons have achieved since he joined the club.

Andre Brooks put the Blades ahead at Bramall Lane, although goals from Josh Windass and Sam Smith earned Wrexham a vital win in their quest to clinch a Championship play-off spot.

Phil Parkinson's men remain seventh in the table, although they stay level on points with Southampton who are sixth.

"The manager's just said in the dressing room that it's right up there, we've been here five years now, in our top 10 of games that we probably needed to win and we needed to keep our run going," assistant coach Parkin said.

"It's been fairly obvious a few people wrote us off after the Watford game.

"We have got a few injuries and we've got a few players that ordinarily would be in and around a team that are not available at the moment.

"I think that it was a big effort from the lads psychologically as well to turn the tables on a really good side after the disappointment of Tuesday night, so that is right up there, really right up there as one of our best wins."

'Super' Sam Smith delivers

Smith has led the line admirably in the absence of top scorer Kieffer Moore who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

The striker now has nine goals across all competitions this season, seven of which have come since the turn of the year.

"It's been difficult for him because he's playing every minute of every game," Parkin said of the frontman.

"Kieffer's picked up a hamstring injury which we were obviously disappointed about.

"But I thought he was great today. He was a real handful all day for the two centre-backs.

"He ran in behind, he ran down the sides, he was physical, he won headers and he's chipped in with an assist and a goal, which is just an outstanding effort at a real difficult place to come to."

On the back of the 3-1 loss to Watford in midweek, manager Parkinson called for an "almighty" effort from his players at Bramall Lane.

Despite weathering plenty of Sheffield United pressure in the first-half, his troops duly delivered, with the exuberant post-match celebrations typifying the significance of the result.

"I think that's a massive result, especially coming off the disappointment at Watford," Smith said.

"The manager said it in the changing room at half-time. He said to just leave it all out there, we've got a break coming up, we've had a long period and just don't regret the opportunity.

"I think the lads dug in deep and have come away with the three points."

Wrexham return to action against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns Stadium on 3 April (15:00 GMT).
