Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says winger Estevao Willian has picked up a "small muscle problem".

The 18-year-old was not in Chelsea's squad as they reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup with a 3-1 win at League One Cardiff City.

When asked about Estevao after the game, Maresca said: "[It's a] small muscle problem. He won't be available for Newcastle. We will see for the next one."

Chelsea's next game is a trip to St James' Park on Saturday, followed by home matches against Aston Villa and Bournemouth before the end of December.

Maresca, who said he endured the "worst 48 hours" since joining Chelsea because of "some people" after Saturday's home win at home over Everton, was the subject of fan chants in the away end.

Addressing that support, he said: "Absolutely. It was a great moment. I appreciate it and I'm always thankful.

"I've said many times in press conferences, the support has always been there.

"Any supporters in the world, when you don't win, they are not happy. So in some moments, when we didn't win games, they have not been happy - but that's normal.

"Overall, the fans have always been there."
