Port Vale manager Jon Brady says he wants his side to play in a way that gets the fans "off their seats" as they try to stay in League One.

Brady has overseen two cup wins in a row in since replacing Darren Moore at Vale Park and is preparing for his first league game on Saturday at Mansfield Town.

Vale go into the match 11 points from safety at the bottom of the table.

"Our main aim is to maintain our League One status. It's the next challenge for us," Brady told BBC Radio Stoke.

"We've tried to show them a 'why?' We've given them markers to hit and they've got a why we need to do that.

"Within that they have a purpose and when you do that it really galvanises the group."

Vale take on the Stags with the momentum from their first league win since September against Blackpool under caretaker boss Jamie Smith before victories in the third round of the FA Cup against Fleetwood and Tuesday's Vertu Trophy success at Bolton with Brady.

But the Australian was quick to play down any assertion that the team's recent confidence is because of what he has done.

"I haven't built it, the players have built it," said Brady. "The people round the club have built it. It's not about me, it's about the group.

"They will deliver, we know they will. They are a fantastic group and we believe in them entirely."

'We show no fear... will never step backwards'

Brady added that it is vital his side set the tone for their approach at the earliest opportunity in games.

"When we win that first tackle, that first duel, when we play forward and get behind them and create chances, our fans will be off their seats. I want them off their seats," he said.

"Yes, we're going to lose the ball, miss a tackle, miss a header, but we're going to work so hard to get under that ball. I want the fans to feed them that energy in those moments.

"There's going to be bumps in the road against good teams, like Mansfield.

"We're going to have great moments. They're going to have great moments and we're going to suffer at times but the fans can be that extra man for us."

Brady said he has "loved every minute" at Vale Park so far and feels the squad are "getting better" and "knitting together".

"You can't win on morale or spirit alone," he said.

"I want to empower them. We have some really talented players who want to fight for this club and absolutely love the club.

"We maintain our momentum though our habits and standards. We show no fear. We will never step backwards."
