"This behaviour has no place in football, or in society, and we are angered that Jermaine has been subjected to such disgusting abuse.

"We can't wait to welcome Jermaine to the VBS Community Stadium and we know our superb supporters will be fully behind him, as well as the whole team, as they have been throughout the season.

"We stand with Jermaine and all victims of online discriminatory abuse."

Sutton have not disclosed whether the incident has been reported to official authorities.
