Carrick Rangers manager Stephen Baxter said it would "mean the world" to win Tuesday's County Antrim Shield final against Cliftonville (19:45 GMT).

The Taylors Avenue side are aiming to secure their first silverware in the competition in 33 years during Baxter's second season in charge and will take confidence from their 4-1 victory over the Reds at Solitude just three days before the final.

However their opponents Cliftonville, are more accustomed to showpieces and have competed in four finals in the last three seasons.

"There only are four trophies available to us in our country and, if you are in one of those finals, you go all out to win it. It is a one off, you give it your best and see if it is good enough," Baxter told BBC Sport NI.

"We have beaten a couple of big teams to get here. We will be the massive underdogs but that is OK, we don't mind that.

"The fact that Carrick haven't been in the final and now have the chance, that will mean the world to everyone. It will certainly mean the world to me, and I have only been here a year."

The final will take place at Seaview, a ground that Baxter is very familiar with after being Crusaders manager for 19 years.

During his time in north Belfast, the 60-year-old led the side to three County Antrim Shield successes as well as three Irish Premiership trophies.

"This will be a familiar territory for me, not our players, but certainly for me. I know every inch of this place," he continued.

"The atmosphere at Seaview when it's a full house is electric and there is no better place to play a final. I think there will be a big atmosphere.

"A team that hasn't been in a final for a long time and a team that is used to playing big finals, so let's see what all has to unfold."

Carrick 'will go for anybody'

Carrick have beaten holders Glentoran and rivals Larne on their way to the decider.

Despite their absence from finals in recent years, striker Danny Gibson, who scored a hat-trick against Cliftonville at Solitude on Saturday, said that the side are "scared of no one" ahead of the showpiece.

"He [Baxter] has been around the block a million times and more, so I am sure he will have game plans set out and we will be well drilled," Gibson said.

"We are scared of no one at the minute. We will go for anybody."

Aside from their cup success, it has been a challenging season for the club, who sit 11th in the Irish Premiership.

"I do," Gibson replied when asked did he believe the side owe the fans something to cheer about.

"I love the fans coming week in and week out. Especially through the tough times we are going through as a club at the minute with not getting results.

"We are playing well, we are challenging all the top teams with absolutely no luck, but hopefully that will turn."
