Lee Bell says Crewe's home form will be vital to their hopes of getting promoted from League Two this season

Crewe Alexandra boss Lee Bell said his side looked "rushed and panicked" in Wednesday's draw against 10-man Newport County and have to "eradicate" that trait if they are to win promotion from League Two.

Bell was left frustrated by dropping two points against the league's bottom club after Cameron Antwi's 93rd-minute goal for Newport ensured the game finished 2-2 at the Mornflake Stadium.

Goals from Stoke loanee Emre Tezgel and Josh March put the Alex ahead with 12 minutes to go after a James Connolly own goal had levelled for County just after half-time.

Seconds from a win that would have taken Crewe into the play-off spots, Antwi grabbed a point for Newport, who played the last 25 minutes with 10 players after Courtney Baker-Richardson collected a second yellow card.

"It feels like a loss," Bell told BBC Radio Stoke.

"We lacked composure against 10 men. We didn't gain that control. It felt rushed and panicked - certainly the goals against us did.

"It's something we've got to eradicate."

'We have to be tougher'

Bell said he is sounding "like a broken record" over how they close games out but insisted he will continue to hammer home the message.

"It's something we've got to look really closely at," he said.

"We have to learn and become tougher to play against.

"It's ok trying to be expansive but we have to be tougher in those moments -especially around the edge of the box.

"We've got to do much better. They are a brilliant group of lads and I think the expectation of what we should be doing is too high at times."

Crewe have dropped 10 points from winning positions this season - enough to have them joint-top with leaders Walsall.

Despite being on the fringes of the play-off places, Bell knows they should be higher.

"Everyone's ambition is to get promotion and we're not in a bad position but we should be in a better one," he said.

"You look at some of the points we've dropped, there are things we need to eradicate in order to achieve anything."
