Newport County have bolstered their ranks with the additions of striker James Crole and winger Tanatswa Nyakuhwa.

Welshman Crole has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the League Two strugglers having left Cymru Premier side Penybont.

Wales Under-21 cap Nyakuhwa has made nine senior appearances for Cardiff City and will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Rodney Parade.

Both players could make Newport debuts at Gillingham on Saturday.

Crole, 21, joined Penybont in July 2024 following his release by Cardiff, for whom he made one senior appearance in the EFL Cup.

He was joint top scorer in the Cymru Premier last season with 16 goals and has scored a further 11 goals in this campaign.

Crole is the latest in a line of players to join County from the Cymru Premier in recent years.

County previously signed James Waite and Nathan Wood from Penybont while Will Evans, Keenan Patten, Kai Whitmore and Lee Jenkins have also moved to Rodney Parade from the Welsh top flight.

Crole is also the second Penybont player to move to the English system during the January transfer window after Gabe Kircough signed for Forest Green Rovers.

Nyakuhwa, 20, was handed his league debut for Cardiff at Norwich City on the final day of the 2024-25 season.

He has also made eight senior appearances across all competitions under Brian Barry-Murphy this term.

Crole and Nyakuhwa join midfielder Harrison Biggins in making the move to Newport this month, with boss Christian Fuchs working on a number of other deals.

Meanwhile, Habeeb Ogunneye has returned to parent club Manchester United prematurely having initially joined the Exiles on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old defender featured 21 times across all competitions for Newport and scored in a 2-1 loss to MK Dons in August.

A club statement read: "The defender leaves Gwent with all at County hopeful that the popular player sees a successful future."
