Josh Ruffels has signed a contract extension that keeps him with League Two Shrewsbury Town until the end of the season.
The 32-year-old joined Salop as a free agent in October and has made 14 appearances in all competitions and scored once.
The versatile former Oxford United and Huddersfield player spent three years working with Shrewsbury head coach Michael Appleton at the U's between 2014 and 2017 and has been used by the Town boss in midfield since arriving.
"Bringing Josh in has been key for us because of the experience he has," Appleton said., external
"He can play in a number of different positions. We've been using him in central midfield, but he's equally comfortable at centre-back, left-back or wing-back, which gives us real flexibility.
"I know exactly what he brings as a person as well - I worked with him for three years at Oxford and the character he has is so important for the group."
Ruffels' new deal comes after the club made their third addition of the transfer window with the arrival of Stevenage midfielder Nick Freeman until the end of the season.
Shrewsbury are one point clear of Harrogate Town, who are in the relegation zone, with the two teams meeting at Croud Meadow on Saturday.
