Carlisle United head coach Mark Hughes says he is expecting a "quiet" month after revealing that the club has missed out on key transfer targets.

The Blues have signed defender Ryan Galvin and extended the loans of Chris Conn-Clarke and Alex Gilliead, but Hughes is unsure how much more business will be done.

"At the moment, it's quite quiet," Hughes told BBC Radio Cumbria. "I don't anticipate a lot happening.

"We've brought in Ryan and extended a couple of loans, which was important, but other targets we've missed out on unfortunately."

Carlisle sit second in the National League, level on points with York City but with an inferior goal difference and having played one game more.

The Cumbria club are chasing promotion back to the EFL after successive relegations and fans were hoping for a busy January to strengthen their chances of winning the National League.

But Hughes admits that they may need to change strategy for the rest of this month in the transfer market.

He added: "We'll reassess and make a decision whether we move on to other ones or if they're not right for us at this moment in time, we'll have to keep our powder dry.

"But it doesn't look like we're going to do anything much."
