Burton Albion defender Alex Hartridge has been discharged from hospital after suffering head injuries during Sunday's League One defeat at Plymouth Argyle.

Hartridge went off in the 29th minute with what the club say was "a nasty gash the full width of his eyebrow and another on his cheekbone" in a clash with Bim Pepple.

A Burton statement on X added: "Luckily, there were no fractures or any other injuries to the defender."

The 26-year-old, who was born in Devon, joined Burton from Wycombe Wanderers last summer and has made 23 appearances, scoring once.

Speaking following the game, Burton boss Gary Bowyer told BBC Radio Derby that Hartridge had not suffered a concussion but may need plastic surgery on his face.

"The referee said it was a mistimed challenge. Well, all fouls are mistimed challenges, but he's clearly headed him straight in the face," he said.

The Brewers are 21st in the table and will be in FA Cup third-round action on Saturday when they travel to National League Boreham Wood.
