Could Onana make a return to Man Utd?

Andre Onana

Is Andre Onana likely to come back into the first-team fold at Manchester United?

That is the subject of several questions sent in via our 'Ask about Manchester United' form about the goalkeeper, who is on a season-long loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor after losing his starting place to summer signing Senne Lammens, and due to be out of contract at Old Trafford in June 2027.

I would be staggered if this happened in any meaningful way.

Cameroon have not qualified for the World Cup (he was controversially left out of the Africa Cup of Nations squad anyway) so Onana has a clear summer.

As the same may not apply to Lammens and Altay Bayindir, it is possible he could go on whatever pre-season tour Manchester United arrange - but beyond that, I don't see Onana accepting a role as back-up and I don't see him returning and taking Lammens' place.

It feels as though he had one last chance to show Ruben Amorim he could be United's number one against Grimsby Town and the mistakes he made that night at Blundell Park effectively mean his future lies elsewhere.
