Mansfield Town defender Baily Cargill is hoping he can rediscover some consistency in his game after returning from a three-month injury lay-off.

The 30-year-old had been sidelined since sustaining a hamstring injury in the 2-0 League One defeat by Wycombe at the start of September and made his long-awaited return as a second-half substitute in Saturday's 3-0 loss at Cardiff.

"My injury was only supposed to be six weeks and then I had a few setbacks so it was nice to be back out there - not the result we wanted but I felt I dusted off a few cobwebs," he told a news conference ahead of this weekend's FA Cup tie against Accrington Stanley.

"I didn't have my best game on the ball and there's a few things defensively I'd have done differently if I'd been playing a bit more but that's to be expected.

"I'm kind of glad it's out of the way now and hopefully I can stay fit, kick on and try to get back to the form I started the season with."

Cargill signed a new two-year contract with the Stags in June and had been ever-present this season until picking up the injury.

"It's just (about) training, building-up my fitness and I want it to come as quick as possible as I really enjoyed the start of this season," he added.

"I think I'm at an age now where consistency should be a big part of my game. I always struggled with that in my early years but I felt I had that this year - the more I start playing hopefully the more consistent I can be.

"I've had quite a lot of injuries over my career but never that length of time. It was really tough, especially knowing it shouldn't have been that long so I'm really glad it's behind me now."

Cargill is set to be involved when Mansfield turn their attentions to an FA Cup second round tie at League Two Accrington on Saturday (15:00 GMT).
