Reading midfielder Ben Elliott has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury.

The 23-year-old has not played since a draw with Doncaster in October where he was forced off the field while holding his thigh, and will now not feature again this campaign after suffering a setback.

"Ben returned to light training but there was a recurrence of his injury and the findings were this morning that he will miss the rest of the season," Reading boss Leam Richardson said.

"It's disappointing for Ben so he'll certainly need our support as a person, as a player and we'll be as positive as we can and we'll make sure we look after him for the short, medium and long term.

"I've spoke to Ben numerous times and right now it won't have any weight but this will make him stronger.

"This will make him a better player, a better person and more appreciative of himself, the game and what he stands for."

Elliott joined Reading in 2023 after coming through Chelsea's academy and has since made 79 first-team appearances for the club.

Prior to his injury he played13 times this campaign across all competitions.
