Man Utd ease past Aston Villa with 3-0 victory

Manchester United put their run of back-to-back defeats behind them to strengthen their grip on third spot in the Women's Super League with a routine victory over Aston Villa.

The hosts led 2-0 at the break thanks to Kirsty Hanson's deflected strike and Jess Sigsworth's powerful header.

Hanson nearly scored directly from a corner in the second half but was denied by the crossbar.

Skipper Katie Zelem wrapped up the win with a header from Hayley Ladd's cross.

Villa, who did not manage a single shot on target, remain four points above the relegation zone.

United were beaten by Manchester City and Reading in their previous two matches, having lost just once in their 14 league games before that.

Casey Stone's side remain six points adrift of leaders Chelsea, who beat West Ham later on Sunday.
