Everton Women 1-1 Birmingham City Women: Toffees held by resilient Blues

  • Published

Jamie-Lee Napier earned Birmingham a draw to frustrate Everton's hopes of a Women's Super League top-four finish.

Danielle Turner lifted a free-kick over the wall and past keeper Hannah Hampton to put the hosts ahead.

Tinja-Riikka Korpela saved Claudia Walker's weak penalty - awarded for handball - but Napier poked in the rebound to level.

The hosts saw plenty of possession in a quiet second half, but created little against City's packed defence.

Toffees boss Willie Kirk had described the match as a must-win to close the gap on the top four, but a run of one win in eight WSL matches has left them above sixth-placed Reading on goal difference only, while Birmingham dropped to ninth after a second draw in three matches.
