FA Cup: Reading 2-2 Blackpool highlights
Blackpool striker Armand Gnanduillet missed with a 'Panenka' style penalty attempt but the League One side still secured an FA Cup replay with Reading.
The Frenchman created the opener for Nathan Delfouneso, and drilled the Seasiders back in front after Sam Baldock struck in the second half.
Then, moments after Danny Loader scored for Reading, Gnanduillet was tripped in the box and handed a chance to win it.
But he elaborately chipped the resulting spot-kick against the bar.
The sides will now meet again at Bloomfield Road on Tuesday, 14 January, and Reading can count themselves lucky to be getting another opportunity to progress to the fourth round.
Mark Bowen's side, who had won their past four Championship matches, were outplayed for the majority of the match.
The Welshman changed his entire starting line-up for the visit of Simon Grayson's team, who are 11th in the third tier, and they looked disjointed from the start.
Grayson made just four alterations and was rewarded with a much more fluid performance in comparison.
They took a deserved lead through a well-crafted goal, with Gnanduillet heading back across for Delfouneso to nod in.
Reading's first equaliser came thanks to a clinical finish from Baldock, which Gnanduillet replied to in similar style before Loader's neat flick finish at the near post brought the scores level again.
But the match is likely to be remembered for Blackpool's French striker and his penalty miss, rather than his goal and assist.
Gnanduillet simply got too much elevation on his chip, with Reading keeper Sam Walker helpless on the ground, and it flew against the crossbar before bouncing clear.
Reading manager Mark Bowen told BBC Radio Berkshire:
"A replay doesn't suit either manager but we're still in the hat and it's exciting for both sets of fans to see who we might get in the fourth round.
"It was important to give some young players a game and a lot of them had had 90 minutes now, we've come from behind twice, so it's positive.
"Whether it's the same group that goes up to Blackpool for the replay will probably depend on who we get in the draw on Monday.
"Making the changes helps me in my preparations for the league because as I see it we're in a race for the play-offs."
Blackpool manager Simon Grayson told BBC Radio Lancashire:
"I'm proud of my team, how they competed and the shape they had. It's frustrating not to come away with the win we deserved.
"We had a frustrating Christmas and said before this game 'right our season starts again here,' and that's as good as we've played all season.
"You look at Reading, even with all of those changes, and they're full of quality. Yes we did score against the run of play, but then we got belief and confidence to pass the ball and hurt them.
"What really pleased me was when we suffered the disappointment of conceding we rolled our sleeves up and hit straight back."
