Christopher Schindler scored his previous goal for Huddersfield against Burnley on 6 October 2018
Barnsley caretaker boss Adam Murray warned they could be "eaten up" by the Championship following defeat by Huddersfield.
Centre-back Christopher Schindler sidefooted his first goal for over a year from close range after the Tykes defence failed to deal with a Karlan Grant cross flashed across the box as Town climbed out of the relegation places.
Grant turned goalscorer after the break when he curled the ball into the far corner for his eighth of the season from Lewis O'Brien's pass.
"I'm getting a bit bored with hearing this 'young' tag and this 'naive' tag. We're in a league where, if you feel sorry for yourself it will eat you up," Murray told BBC Radio Sheffield.
Jacob Brown pulled one back with a smart turn and shot, but Barnsley could not find an equaliser and remain without a victory since the opening day of the season.
Huddersfield, by contrast, have taken 11 points out of 15 in October and they have not lost in their last six games under Danny Cowley.

Adam Murray led Barnsley's Under-18 team before being put in charge of the first team
Murray has been in charge for three games following the departure of Daniel Stendel on 8 October and said of his players: "They need to stand up and probably man up a little bit, they know that.
"A lot of them have come from levels that are not like the one they are in, not just with the quality of football, but mentally as well.
"It comes right for your jugular and if you don't respond right, you get eaten."
Barnsley went into the game with a couple of decent draws behind them against Swansea and West Brom, games Barnsley "kind of emptied ourselves out in", according to Murray.
They made a good start at the John Smith's Stadium, with striker Cauley Woodrow failing to make a controlled contact as the ball deflected to him in the box, before Schindler put the Terriers in front.
Grant's goal left the visitors with too much to do and it should have been three when his shot was beaten away by Brad Collins, and Elias Kachunga somehow cleared the bar from the rebound before Brown gave Town an anxious final few minutes with his reply.
Barnsley are next in action at home to Bristol City on 1 November and Murray does not know whether he will still be in charge then.
"I understand the board are in a process. How long that is, 48 hours or two weeks, that'll be up to them," Murray added.
Huddersfield boss Danny Cowley told BBC Radio Leeds:
"It was an important win, we didn't start well but credit to the players they run themselves into the game.
"At 2-0 up we wasn't ruthless enough and we could have made the game easier for ourselves by getting a third but we rode it out and managed the game with intelligence.
"Only good teams go six unbeaten in the Championship and now we are six unbeaten, the players are rightly very proud of themselves."
