Tranmere Rovers 0-1 Shrewsbury Town

Aaron Pierre's first goal for the club was enough for Shrewsbury to edge to victory over former Town boss Micky Mellon's Tranmere Rovers.

Grenada international Pierre struck the only goal of the game at Prenton Park on 20 minutes with a left-foot angled drive from 12 yards.

Callum Lang, running in at the far post, also appeared to have got a touch, but the ball was already on its way in and the goal was given to Pierre.

Tranmere's task was then made even harder when they were to play the second half a man short after Connor Jennings was sent off for a second yellow card.

Having been booked for a 19th-minute foul on Donald Love, Jennings was then dismissed by referee Craig Hicks in the third minute of first-half stoppage time after a needless foul on Daniel Udoh.

Rovers battled hard to snatch something from the contest but the closest they got was when Shrewsbury goalkeeper Max O'Leary pulled off a stunning save from Neil Danns in the last minute.

Shrewsbury defender Aaron Pierre told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"It's definitely my goal. Callum even told me he didn't touch it, so props to him for being honest.

"He's a striker and he'll want to claim goals as much as he can but it's definitely my goal. And it's about time I scored.

"I've been quite frustrated in front of goal as I've been trying to add that more into my game."
