Bradley Johnson's goal was his first for Derby since scoring against Wednesday in October 2017
Derby County climbed back into the Championship play-off places despite being held to a draw at home by Sheffield Wednesday.
The Rams, who beat Wigan last week after a run of three defeats, went ahead when Bradley Johnson made no mistake after Duane Holmes' corner was flicked on.
Wednesday, though, had the majority of possession and attempts on goal in the first half, with Scott Carson saving from Steven Fletcher and George Boyd.
They lost Fletcher to injury after the break, but finally earned their reward when an unmarked Dominic Iorfa headed past Carson from Barry Bannan's free-kick.
Despite only collecting a point, Derby moved up to sixth, with Bristol City slipping down a place following their home defeat by Leeds.
Wednesday have yet to be beaten since Steve Bruce took over as manager eight games ago, but remained 13th, still six points adrift of the Rams with 10 games to play.
Home boss Frank Lampard swapped his strikers after Iorfa's goal with Jack Marriott and David Nugent replacing Martyn Waghorn and Harry Wilson, while Wednesday sent on Sam Winnall, who played 18 games on loan for Derby last season.
Winnall had the ball in the net for the visitors, only for the referee to disallow his effort for kicking the ball out of Carson's hands as both lay on the floor.
But Derby finished the stronger, with Keiren Westwood saving from Jayden Bogle, Holmes and Florian Jozefzoon, and goalscorer Johnson almost grabbing a winner with an effort which took a big deflection and bounced just wide of the post.
Derby County manager Frank Lampard:
"It was possibly a fair result but the way we pushed at the end and the chances we had it felt like we were the ones trying to win the game.
"It's slightly disappointing but a point takes us back into the top six which we can be happy about and I thought the effort was really there, we kept pushing to the end and that's why I'm disappointed we didn't get the win because we worked hard for it.
"We must remain very positive. It's been a patch where we've been slightly off form, there's no doubt about it, but we fought today and could have won and it's important that we keep momentum now."
Sheffield Wednesday boss Steve Bruce told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"We were better in the second half that's for sure. We gave the ball away cheaply in the first-half too often. But even still we had one or two really good opportunities. We've been rock solid defensively and yet they scored from a set-piece.
"A draw probably was the right result although probably doesn't do either side any good. We need to get wins at this stage of the season. I've got to be pleased, 1-0 away from home, you've got to accept that.
"(Steven) Fletcher's got a whack to his knee and his ankle, we'll see how he is tomorrow. Unfortunately we've been dealt that hand but we've still got a big enough squad to cause a lot of teams problems."
