Colchester United 2-3 Mansfield Town

  • Published

Mansfield produced a stunning second-half comeback to win at promotion rivals Colchester.

Sammie Szmodics was denied by Mansfield keeper Jordan Smith early on, while at the other end, Nicky Ajose headed wide unmarked at the far post.

But Colchester took the lead through Tom Eastman, who prodded home from close range after Mikael Mandron had headed on Courtney Senior's free-kick.

Smith denied Brennan Dickenson before Courtney Senior doubled Colchester's lead, drilling a low left-foot shot past Smith and in at the near post.

Colchester keeper Rene Gilmartin foiled Mal Benning just before half-time, but Mansfield pulled a goal back soon after the break when Ajose chested in Tyler Walker's cross from close range.

The Stags then equalised when Walker side-footed home from Jorge Grant's pass.

And Mansfield completed their superb turnaround with 11 minutes left through CJ Hamilton, who prodded home in the six-yard box after Ajose's pass had caught the home defence napping.
