Forward Antoine Semenyo had got Newport back on level terms at Crewe

Callum Ainley scrambled home a winner in time added on to give Crewe Alexandra victory over Newport County in a topsy-turvy game at Gresty Road.

Jordan Bowery gave Crewe a first-half lead when he shot under Joe Day.

The Exiles levelled when Antoine Semenyo shot into the far corner before Padraig Amond struck from close range.

But in a frenetic ending Chris Porter made it 2-2 with a penalty after Bowery was fouled from a corner, before Ainley got the last touch in a crowded box.

Newport County manager Michael Flynn told BBC Sport Wales:

"The wind played a factor, that is why we were the better team in the second half. We could have been more than 1-0 down.

"I can't make any excuses for the two late goals we conceded, it was amateurish, poor, whatever you want to say, it was terrible.

"The penalty we gave away was inexcusable and then the third goal is comical, it was like a Carry On film. As a team, we couldn't defend.

"I am angry because we are making the same mistakes. I don't want to cross the line, but I will tell the players how I feel behind closed doors. We collapsed... we should have seen the game out. It was not good enough."
