Preston North End extended their unbeaten run to eight games as they comfortably beat local rivals Blackburn Rovers at Deepdale.

North End were 2-0 up in 10 minutes after Alan Browne set up Tom Barkhuizen to slot home, before also creating Callum Robinson's cool solo finish for the second goal.

Danny Graham halved Blackburn's deficit after the break when he headed home Harrison Reed's free-kick.

But the hosts wrapped up all three points as the game entered its closing stages when Louis Moult poked the ball in from close range before setting up Browne for the fourth.

Preston have not lost in the Championship since their 3-2 home defeat by West Bromwich Albion on 29 September.

Their fifth league win this season - and fourth in the last seven games - moves them up to 16th in the table, four points above the relegation places.

Tony Mowbray's side, meanwhile, slip a place to 10th, their third away league defeat this season.

Blackburn, who had a goal disallowed when Ben Brereton found the net after Bradley Dack was flagged offside, have not beaten Preston now in their last four meetings with their Lancashire neighbours.

Preston manager Alex Neil:

"It was a good performance. We started well, got a 2-0 lead, created some great chances and finished our chances.

"We were aggressive, wanted to win, and fully deserved it. The reaction to conceding, to come back and finish the game off was probably the most pleasing aspect.

"At the end of the day we won against our local rivals, the lads played well, and I am pleased."

Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray:

"Much of our defending was uncharacteristic. There were also some individual errors. Collectively, we played too deep and invited trouble.

"Then at 3-1 we have a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside against Bradley Dack, who is clearly onside and that is frustrating.

"But let's not look too deeply at this. We lost 4-1 to a rival and we know we have to be better than this in the upcoming games. It is as simple as that."
