Marek Rodak saved a penalty from Josh Magennis but could do nothing about Christopher Doidge's late equaliser
Christopher Doidge's late equaliser on the counter-attack snatched Bolton Wanderers a point and denied Rotherham United a first win in six games.
Doidge struck on the break, finishing off a pass from Clayton Donaldson to bring the scores level with six minutes left.
Wanderers looked on course for a third defeat in a row after the Millers had gone in front through a thunderous low second-half free-kick by Will Vaulks.
Millers forward Michael Smith could have put the game beyond doubt, but his curling effort from way out smacked the woodwork rather than rippled the net.
Bolton wasted a golden chance to go in front just before Vaulks' goal when Marek Rodak dived to his left to save a Josh Magennis penalty.
The draw leaves Rotherham two points above the relegation zone in 18th, while Bolton are just two places and four points above them with 16 points.
Rotherham manager Paul Warne:
"I'm disappointed not to win, even more so because their goal was so late on. Until the whistle goes I am virtually having a heart attack.
"They had four strikers on the pitch so I knew they would create something. It's a pity we didn't get a second goal.
"We created two really good chances from set-pieces, on another day they go in and we take three points."
Bolton manager Phil Parkinson:
"It is a tough place to come. Rotherham have proved that this season, against Derby and Stoke.
"We started the second half very well and had the chance to go in front. But the penalty miss was a key moment. It was a great save and gave them a great lift, the crowd got behind them and they went on to dominate.
"You have got to give our lads credit, 1-0 down to respond in the way we did. We wanted three points but we will definitely take a point."
