Jamille Matt also found the net twice in midweek in the Checkatrade Trophy against Chelsea
Four goals in 18 minutes either side of half time saw Newport complete a big turnaround against Cambridge United at Rodney Parade as they won 4-2.
The Exiles trailed 2-0 before a Mickey Demetriou penalty on the stroke of half time got them back into things.
Padraig Amond levelled for County and two goals from substitute striker Jamille Matt made the result safe.
Former Newport trialist Reggie Lambe scored twice inside 21 minutes to put the visitors in charge early on.
Newport County manager Mike Flynn told BBC Radio Wales: "I'll be honest, it's not good for my blood pressure the way we started, it wasn't what we're about. You start fearing the worst and they were poor goals. We made a big decision to put Jamille on, we went brave and it changed the game. It was a definite penalty and goals changed games and we showed an abundance of character.
"I'm paid to make these decisions and I hope I can get more right than we get wrong but apart from the two goals we were excellent, we put a lot of effort in and showed the fans how much it meant to them."
