Lucas Joao's two goals both came from set-pieces
Portuguese striker Lucas Joao scored twice as Sheffield Wednesday beat 10-man Ipswich Town at Hillsborough.
Joao headed Jos Luhukay's Owls in front early on from a Barry Bannan corner and it could have been two had Jordan Thorniley not put his effort wide minutes later.
Toto Nsiala had brought Paul Hurst's winless Tractor Boys level before the break before the Congolese defender was shown a straight red for a bad foul on Fernando Forestieri.
And Joao, who signed a new deal in midweek, was on hand to score Wednesday's winner after his initial effort from a Bannan free-kick hit the post.
Victory completes a positive week for the South Yorkshire club, who beat Millwall on Wednesday - also at Hillsborough.
Luhukay's side, who failed to win any of their opening three league games, go up to 13th in the league table.
However, the result means Ipswich - now bottom of the Championship - continued a worrying trend of having failed to win any of their last 18 league games when conceding the first goal.
And perhaps of greater concern for manager Hurst, who joined from Shrewsbury Town in the summer, eight of the past 10 league goals conceded by his side have been scored from set-pieces.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay:
"When you win two games in a week at home it is fantastic for the fans. It was a very difficult game, we had to keep fighting and at the end we are pleased with the result.
"We were limited on chances but we took our goals at important times, we had a good feeling from today. It is important for the confidence.
"We are very happy with Lucas [Joao], we know his qualities and he is very important for us. We were happy to have him back available today."
Ipswich Town manager Paul Hurst:
"Toto [Nsiala] has won the ball. I'm not sure what he's meant to do in that situation and the lad has kicked him. It's really, really frustrating. I think we will appeal.
"Too many times we were in good positions and didn't make the most of them.
"It's a test for everyone. We've got a massive game coming up [against Norwich City] which isn't lost on me. We have to stay mentally strong."
