Alfie Potter fires-in Mansfield's second goal after just nine minutes

Mansfield Town gave their promotion campaign a boost at the expense of out-of-sorts Newport County at Field Mill.

Playing for the first time since their FA Cup defeat by Tottenham at Wembley, County were blown away in 35 minutes.

Danny Rose opened the scoring after six minutes, with Alfie Potter striking twice before Alex MacDonald hit the fourth in the 34th minute.

Potter completed his hat-trick with a deflected shot after the break as the Stags moved into fifth place.

Newport remain in 12th place, but have not won in four league games and have lost their last three.

Newport manager Mike Flynn: "Let's not dress it up, six nights ago at Wembley I was the proudest manager in the country, tonight I'm ashamed.

"When you let in goals like that - it is the first time this season they've let themselves down like that and it will be the last time."
