Shrewsbury Town 1-2 Plymouth Argyle

  • Published

Plymouth came from behind to beat second-placed Shrewsbury and became only the second visiting League One team to pick up three points at the Montgomery Waters Meadow this season.

Carlton Morris gave high-flying Shrewsbury the lead but Jamie Ness pulled Plymouth level before Zak Vyner grabbed a second-half winner.

Argyle have now lost just one of their past 12 League One matches.

The hosts started brightly, taking took the lead in the sixth minute when on-loan Norwich striker Morris tapped home a Max Lowe cross from the left following neat approach play from Jon Nolan and Alex Rodman.

Plymouth responded well and were awarded a 19th minute penalty after Antoni Sarcevic went down in the box, but Shrewsbury goalkeeper Craig MaGillivray made an excellent save, diving low to his left to keep out Graham Carey's well-struck spot kick.

The visitors pulled level eight minutes later as Ness burst into the box after being picked out by Ruben Lameiras and produced a cool finish.

The Pilgrims then moved ahead on 62 minutes when on-loan Bristol City central defender Vyner turned in from close range after Shrewsbury were unable to clear a Carey corner. And Remi Matthews preserved Plymouth's advantage with a fine save from a Nathan Thomas header.
