Trinity Shield: St Brelade lift inter-parish trophy for third consecutive year

St Brelade came from behind to beat St Saviour 2-1 and lift Jersey's inter-parish Trinity Shield for the third year in a row.

Daryl Wilson gave St Saviour an early lead but Harry Cardwell's close-range strike levelled the contest.

St Brelade skipper Chris Andrews netted the winner 15 minutes from the end to extend their unbeaten run.

"We probably showed a bit more fight towards the end," said St Brelade boss Ben Naylor.

"I thought for the first 15 minutes St Saviour were probably on top, but we settled and we got back into it.

"We thought they'd tire slightly, we've got a fit young bunch of lads there and we've shown over the past three years that we know how to win games."

The annual tournament sees Jersey-born players represent the parish they were born into or now live.

St Saviour had only played one game to get to the final because of a bye in the first round and then St Peter pulling out of their semi-final because of a lack of players.

They went ahead when Wilson's sweetly-hit shot flew in off the upright after 12 minutes.

The lead did not last long though, as Cardwell's low effort went under the goalkeeper as both sides looked to play a quick, attacking game in the opening stages.

Jonny Le Quesne and James Carolan both wasted good second-half opportunities for St Brelade, while Wilson twice shot over the bar at the other end.

Andrews was more clinical though, smashing the ball into the roof of the net from outside the box for what turned out to be the winner.

Former Airdrie United midfielder Jack Boyle went close to a late equaliser for St Saviour but his dipping effort from long range went just over.
