Welsh cyclist Zoe Backstedt has retained the overall lead at the Vuelta a Extremadura in Spain as her Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto teammate Chiara Consonni won stage two.

Backstedt won Friday's time trial stage, her sixth time trial win in a row, to come into the second stage in the yellow jersey.

Consonni launched her sprint as Backstedt gave her the leadout in the final kilometre of the 132km stage from Pueblonuevo del Guadiana to Fuente del Maestre.

21-year-old Backstedt holds a six second lead over Australia's Brodie Chapman heading into Sunday's final stage in the mountains.
