    And that's that.

The TV cameras suddenly cut to captains Mitch Santner and Salman Ali Agha shaking hands in the tunnel with the former giving a thumbs up to the few viewers that have clung on.

Each side take a point for a no result.

We'll be back tomorrow for England's opening Super Eight fixture against Sri Lanka (09:30 GMT) in Pallekele - hopefully with better weather.

    Have a good evening.

Significant puddles have formed on the covers on the outfield, with big droplets visible on their surface - it's still coming down pretty heavily in Colombo.

The stadium big screen is now saying "start of play delayed because of rain."

    I'd guessed.

We've still fully covered in Colombo, so if we do get any play it certainly won't be for a while.

While we wait for a call from the umpires, why not read Matthew Henry's preview of England's first Super Eight fixture against Sri Lanka.

That's tomorrow in Pallekele at 09:30 GMT - hopefully we'll have better weather.

It's still raining in Colombo, we will bring up any updates as and when we have them.

Meanwhile England captain Harry Brook has speaking to the press before his side's clash with Sri Lanka tomorrow.

He has said it would be "a shame" if Pakistan players were excluded from playing in The Hundred this year.

Sources have told BBC Sport that Pakistan players are not being considered by the four Indian-owned sides for the auction, which will take place on 11 and 12 March.

Yorkshire batter Brook has already been signed by Indian-owned Sunrisers Leeds, previously known as Northern Superchargers, and will be the tournament's highest-paid player after receiving a fee of £465,000.

No news from Colombo at present - bar the fact it still appears to be raining.

A message on the stadium's big screen asks: "Rain, rain, go away."

These two have played a fair bit in the last two years, with the Black Caps holding the edge, ever so slightly.

New Zealand captain Mitch Santner speaking at the toss: "We came here from Chennai. It could be a little bit different here. But we know what the conditions will be. We know what challenge Pakistan will bring. It should be entertaining. They've got some very good spinners. We know that."

  9. Postpublished at 13:27 GMT 21 February

Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha speaking at the toss: "We have one pacer and a good all-rounder in Faheem Ashraf. So we have two pacers and a lot of good spin options. We know New Zealand are a good team. We need to bring our A game. That's what we will be looking to do today."

So, as expected, the start of the match has been delayed.

With any luck this will pass and we'll get some cricket again.

Of course the women's ODI World Cup a few months ago was blighted by rain in Colombo, but that was a time of year not best suited to cricket in Sri Lanka...

...well, having said that, things might depend on the weather.

We've had a toss at the R Premadasa Stadium, and it was on time after earlier rain had disappeared.

However, since then we've had another shower and the big plastic sheets they use as covers in Sri Lanka have been pulled back over the ground.

Anyway, Salman Ali won that toss and Pakistan will have a bat when we do get out there - and the forecast suggests we should get a game in.
