Joe Denly made his maiden double century for Kent against Northamptonshire as bat continued to dominate ball at Wantage Road.
Denly (206 not out) registered his highest first-class score as the visitors were bowled out for 396.
Opener Ben Duckett fell cheaply for Northants but Nottinghamshire loanee Jake Libby (81) played patiently.
He put on 156 runs with Alex Wakely (87) before both men edged behind, leaving Northants 206-3 at stumps.
Kent batsman Joe Denly told BBC Radio Kent:
"I'm absolutely delighted to get us up to around 400 and to personally get the double hundred was fantastic.
"It was disappointing not to get it when I was last on 199 but I felt pretty good today and I was delighted when the ball went through the covers for four.
"It's pretty tough to score if you bowl stump to stump and don't give away any freebies. I thought we did that pretty well."
