LV County Championship Division Two, The Oval

Close, day two: Surrey 225 & 145-5, Gloucestershire 261

Gloucestershire 5pts, Surrey 4pts

Ian Saxelby took 3-53 to give Gloucestershire the edge over Surrey after two days at The Oval.

Gloucestershire had begun the day on 171-4 but saw their progress checked by Zander de Bruyn (3-39) as they were dismissed for 261.

But Saxelby then bowled Rory Hamilton-Brown and Tom Maynard, and trapped Jason Roy lbw as Surrey reached 145-5, 109 ahead, before bad light ended play.

Crucially for Surrey, Mark Ramprakash is still there on an unbeaten 61.

CLOSE OF PLAY SUMMARY

BBC London's Mark Church:

"This game is delicately poised heading into the third day. With Mark Ramprakash unbeaten on 61, Surrey will feel they still have a good chance of winning this game.

"Surrey's lead is 109 and Gloucestershire will also feel they have an excellent opportunity to record a victory, but batting has not been easy and if Ramprakash bats for a significant period on the third morning the visitors' chances will diminish.

"Either way, a fascinating third day is in prospect with both sides fancying their chances of coming out on top."
