Glenullin manager Michael O'Kane admits his team "left our worst performance for the last" as they fell to a 0-12 to 0-6 defeat by An Ghaeltacht in Sunday's All-Ireland Club Intermediate football final.

The Derry side managed just one point in the first half as they went in at the break trailing by eight and although they improved in the second period, they couldn't find the scores to put the pressure on the Kerry men.

It was a disappointing day for the Ulster champions, but O'Kane feels there are brighter days ahead despite falling short on their big day.

"We didn't do ourselves justice," the Glenullin boss told BBC Sport NI.

"We won both kick-outs, had more shots than them and more goal chances but we so poor in in some things we've done. We gave them easy outs, turned the ball over in transition, so it was just a very strange game and we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

"It might sound silly to say after losing an |All-Ireland Intermediate final, but we feel we are only going to get better.

"They are one of the best teams in Ireland and we weren't on their level today. We left our worst performance for the last and that's something we will have to live with."

Glenullin's shooting let them down in the second period when they had opportunities, while Eoin Bradley was denied a 13th minute goal by An Ghaeltacht goalkeeper Sean O Luing.

Defensively, O'Kane was relatively happy but while their attack flourished throughout the run to the final, it just didn't happen this time with some misfortune i the build-up perhaps a contributing factor.

"We needed a spark," O'Kane agreed.

"Ryan McNicholl had been in bed since Wednesday and even coming down the road he was in bad shape. He's been our spark all year but he had a really bad flu and it just didn't happen for him or any of our forwards.

"We thought if we held them to 12 points, we'd win the game. Our attacking all year has been fantastic, our defending was decent today but attacking-wise we didn't get going."
