Scotland's men started their European Curling Championship campaign by earning revenge over Germany, who beat them in last year's final.
Team Mouat looked like they might be heading for another defeat, but managed a steal in the eighth end to shift the momentum and ultimately ran out 8-7 winners in their opening round-robin match in Finland.
"We were hoping for some redemption, so we were glad to get over the line there," Mouat said. "We have a lot of positives to take away from that game."
The opening day was less enjoyable for Scotland's women, though.
Team Morrison, ranked second in the world, suffered a shock 9-0 defeat by Turkey before being edged out 7-6 by the world number one Swedish rink.
"They are the top ranked team in the event and we took them down to the last end," said skip Sophie Jackson.
"If we could have taken a few more of our opportunities we could have turned that game into a win, so that is really positive going into tomorrow."
Team Morrison face Denmark on Sunday, while Team Mouat face Czech Republic and Austria.
