Chesterfield 1-1 Coventry City

James Maddison's late free-kick denied Danny Wilson victory in his first home game as Chesterfield boss.

The Spireites scored their first goal in over eight hours when striker Lee Novak glanced Jay O'Shea's free-kick into the top corner.

Although City dominated the second half, Chesterfield almost made it two when Sylvan Ebanks-Blake hit the bar.

Maddison earned a point for Coventry late on when his superb strike curled past Chesterfield keeper Tommy Lee.

Coventry manager Tony Mowbray told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:

"I think we're hugely disappointed that we didn't take three points.

"We got some reward from the game from our efforts; we have to take the point, but we're disappointed we didn't take three.

"The fans came today to show how passionate they can be, so for us as a team the least we can do is show the passion on the pitch, and thankfully we got a goal late on and can take something from the match."
