Colchester have appointed Wayne Brown as caretaker manager, with John McGreal assisting the former U's defender.

The League One club have been without a manager since Tony Humes left by mutual consent last week.

Brown, 38, has been in charge of the club's under-18 side, while McGreal has been looking after their under-21s.

"I hope everyone can get behind Wayne and John and give them their full support," chairman Robbie Cowling told the club website., external

He confirmed they would be in charge while he and other board members "determine the next full-time management team".

Humes' former assistant Richard Hall remains at the club, but a decision is yet to be made on his future.

"Richard very much remains a part of the club and the equation going forward," Cowling added.
