Brighton & Hove Albion 0-2 Bournemouth

Bournemouth edged closer to promotion to the Premier League after second-half goals from Yann Kermorgant and Callum Wilson sealed victory over Brighton.

The Cherries moved four points clear with four games left, but Norwich and Watford can close the gap on Saturday.

In a match of few chances Leon Best had Brighton's best effort with his tame effort straight at Artur Boruc.

However, Kermorgant's stunning 25-yard free-kick and Wilson's cool finish from close range secured the points.

With five points covering the top four, the promotion race threatens to go to the last game of the season but Bournemouth will reach the top flight if they win their remaining fixtures.

Brighton remain 19th and are still nine points above the relegation zone, although Millwall in 23rd place have two games in hand.

The first-half statistics told the story of a poor opening 45 minutes at the Amex Stadium with neither side managing to get a meaningful effort on goal.

There were half chances for Inigo Calderon and Joao Teixeira for Brighton, while Matt Ritchie was Bournemouth's biggest threat with two strikes that failed to concern keeper David Stockdale.

Dale Stephens came close to breaking the deadlock after the restart with his side-foot effort from 20-yards flying a foot over Boruc's crossbar and on the hour Brighton should have taken the lead.

Best latched onto a long ball and while his superb first touch set the chance up perfectly his scuffed shot from 10 yards was tame and straight at Boruc. At the other end Kermorgant floated a header just wide of Stockdale's post as the game finally started to open up.

Lewis Dunk's crude challenge on Adam Smith presented the Cherries with a free-kick from 25 yards and Kermorgant superbly curled a strike into the top-right hand corner of the goal for 1-0.

Wilson doubled that lead after collecting Kermorgant's through ball, turning Greg Halford inside and out before coolly slotting home his 21st goal of the season.

That strike - their 89th of 2014-15 - saw Bournemouth break their highest tally for goals scored in a league campaign in what is becoming a season of broken records.

Brighton manager Chris Hughton: "For 70 minutes we were very good but Bournemouth showed why they are where they are in the league.

"We were the more likely to score in the first half but in the last period we tried to push forward and they capitalised on it.

"I'm majorly concerned by the lack of goals. The facts are there to see - we haven't scored in our last three games."

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe told BBC Radio Solent:

"Brighton are a tough nut to crack and they still play good football and we were under no illusions how difficult tonight was going to be. That is why we are delighted with the three points.

"I'm very proud of the players. The goalscorers will obviously get the plaudits but it's very much a team achievement. I'm very proud of the team for that [record number of league goals].

"What we have done is reaffirmed to ourselves that we can come to tough grounds and find a way to win when the pressure is really on with players who can step up."
