Leicestershire v Essex

No play possible because of rain

Leicestershire and Essex suffered a second blank day with bad weather again disrupting their Division Two Championship game at Grace Road.

The two captains got as far as tossing up, with Essex's James Foster opting to field first, after the umpires decided play could begin at 13:00 BST.

But rain then returned and the state of the outfield prevented any play.

Leicestershire now look certain to finish bottom of the table for the third year running.

They have won just two games so far and need a victory over Essex to keep alive their hopes of avoiding last place.
