Fred Pass: Drawings in Ink

Sheffield author Fred Pass died in September 2007. Well known for Weerz Me Dad? - a comic look at Sheffield life in the 1940s and 50s, Fred was also a talented artist. BBC Radio Sheffield hosted an exhibition of his ink drawings in June 2008.

After Fred’s death in September 2007, his son Mark Pass appealed for someone to take an interest in his dad's drawings.

Radio Sheffield stepped forward because of Fred's long-standing connection with its listeners, and held a free exhibition at BBC Radio Sheffield's Open Centre in June 2008.

His Indian ink drawings depict the world of art, music, politics and sport - and among them are sketches of Sheffield Wednesday players and managers, but the drawings are not for sale.

Fred's nostalgic book, Weerz Me Dad?, is a humorous account of growing up in Sheffield during the 1940s and 1950s. In 2005, Sheffield people voted the bestseller their second favourite book ever, and it raised thousands of pounds for St. Luke's Hospice. Fred also wrote Weerz Me Mam?, some of the proceeds of which go to St. Luke's Hospice.
