Read on to find out more about Waheed's passions in life. What's your first memory? My mother taking me into her arms. First record you bought?I seem to remember Sex Crime by the Eurythmics and lots of bhangra tunes on white label. Your favourite three songs?1. The First Cut is the Deepest by Sheryl Crow Who's been your best interviewee and why?The late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan because he was such a world superstar yet so humble in his personality. What's the most embarrassing thing you've said on-air?"Keep it up!" in response to a caller who said he'd just become a father and was looking forward to a larger family. What's been your career highlight? No single highlight but I feel privileged to have interviewed people from so many different backgrounds and enjoy that high feeling after a programme when I feel we've really helped people to understand the society we all share. How do you spend your time away from the microphone?Quality moments with people I love, shopping, watching TV and writing poetry. Favourite place in South Yorkshire or North Derbyshire - and why?Going out past Ringinglow into Hathersage. I love to sit on the hill, with beautiful rural views and lose myself in my own thoughts. As a 10-year-old child, what did you want to be when you grew up?Sumo wrestler. I’m still working on the diet. Who would you like to be trapped in a lift with?Aishwariya Rai and Angelina Jolie. Favourite food & drink?I have a yearning for two well cooked seekh kebabs wrapped in a freshly baked, hot, yet delightfully soft naan. Dressed in a deep salad (to help achieve my five fruit and veg a day!) and topped with a light red chilli sauce. A smooth glass of mango juice to temper the spice and of course good company to share the pleasure. What do you never miss on television?Spooks, The Apprentice, Dragon’s Den and Have I Got News For You. What would you do if you won the lottery?Start my own charity to give a fresh start and security to orphans. last updated: 30/06/2009 at 16:24 You are in: South Yorkshire > Radio Sheffield > Waheed Akhtar |
