BBC Look North's Sam Wichelow caught up with the disheveled looking man who's pictured on the front cover of the fastest selling album of all-time. Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys have made all the headlines since the release of their debut single 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor'. Their debut album 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' was released on 23 January, in it's first week the album broke all records selling around 360,000 copies. Their latest UK tour dates sold out in just 20 minutes, and their first two singles have gone straight to the top of the charts. Their success and rise to fame has been recognised by the industry, as the band has been nominated for best British band, best new band, best live band and best track for the NME Awards on 23 February. Media-shy However you won't find any images of Sheffield's famously media-shy Arctic Monkeys on the cover of their own album. Instead they've made the face of one of their mates one of the most recognisable in the country. Chris McClure works in his local pub in Sheffield at the weekends. The 19-year-old friend of the band was financed by the four-piece to embark on a bit of a drinking session with his cousin and a best friend - it was on that day that the album cover and insert images were shot. However the band received some criticism for the cover as it showed Chris smoking a cigarette, but the band's product manager, Johnny Bradshaw, denied it promoted smoking, stating that Chris didn't exactly look a picture of health on the cover. |
